Welcome to Magdalen Farm Strings!
Following its fifth successful year, Magdalen Farm Strings is a well-established annual course for promising and enthusiastic young string players aged 9 - 14, who come together for a week of music making and fun during the Easter holidays. It is held at The Magdalen Project, an environmental education centre based on a beautiful organic farm on the West Dorset/Somerset border.
We are fortunate to have the distinguished composer Colin Matthews as our patron. For the past three years he has composed a new piece especially for Magdalen Farm Strings and has promised to do so again in 2013. Colin Matthews was a judge at the 2010 final of Young Musician of the Year. Colin joined the 2011 participants for this photo taken in the courtyard at Magdalen Farm.
All of our courses have gone extremely well but both parents and supporters agreed that 2012 has been the best yet. As a relatively small group with a family atmosphere, we are in a good position to take on board any suggestions for improvement and we introduce new aspects each year. Several children have grown up with the course and are completely dedicated Magdalen Farm Strings fans: but there are always plenty of new participants, who can be sure of a tremendous welcome from children and staff alike.
Please explore our website, which will we hope give you a good idea of what Magdalen Farm Strings is all about. The next course will be held from 7th to 13th April 2013, starting on the Sunday afternoon and finishing at lunch time the following Saturday. It is basically a residential course, but we can take day participants if required. Reservations can be made from June 2012 onwards.
We look forward to hearing from you.
