Welcome to Magdalen Farm Strings!
Magdalen Farm Strings is a well-established annual course for promising and enthusiastic young string players aged 9 - 16, who come together for a week of music making and fun during the Easter holidays. In 2016 we are delighted to be back at our usual venue, Magdalen Farm. magdalenfarm.org.uk
We are very fortunate to have the distinguished composer Colin Matthews as our patron. He composes a new piece especially for Magdalen Farm Strings each year. Colin Matthews was a judge at the 2010 final of Young Musician of the Year
In 2013 we introduced chamber groups for the first time. This proved to be very popular and was successfully repeated in 2014 and 2015.
As a relatively small group with a family atmosphere, we are in a good position to take on board any suggestions for improvement and we introduce new aspects each year. We always have an outside visiting musician on one day during the course: jazz singer Zoe Schwarz is a regular visitor and she joined us again in 2015, as did Miranda Rutter, who leads the well-known folk group, Methera.
Several children have grown up with the course and are completely dedicated 'Magdalen Farm Stringers': but there are always plenty of new participants, who can be sure of a tremendous welcome from children and staff alike.
Please explore our website, which will we hope give you a good idea of what Magdalen Farm Strings is all about. We look forward to hearing from you
