From June 2013 we will be inviting applications for Magdalen Farm Strings 2014 which, as with our previous courses, will be held during the Easter holidays. The dates of the week-long course is from 11th to 17th April 2014. See How to Apply for further details.
Magdalen Farm Strings is a unique musical experience exploring the essence of English music in its various aspects - from medieval times to the contemporary composers of today. The daily programme includes coached sessions in string orchestral repertoire of English composers, chamber music, musicianship and improvisation. Visiting tutors and musicians offer an exciting variety of experiences, including folk, baroque, eurhythmics and jazz.
Our inspiration is the stunningly beautiful landscape of the Dorset and Somerset countryside surrounding our 132-acre organic farm.
Every afternoon is spent on and around the farm with plenty of energetic and highly enjoyable games and activities, run on an ecological / sustainability theme, by Magdalen's own experienced teaching staff.
We are extremely fortunate in that the internationally-renowned composer Colin Matthews has once again kindly offered to compose a new piece for Magdalen Farm Strings 2014 and continues to be our very active and enthusiastic patron.
Magdalen Farm Strings culminates with an informal concert on the morning of the final day, followed by a delicious buffet lunch at which family and friends can meet the staff and get to know other parents.
We are extremely grateful to Colin Matthews, The Radcliffe Trust, The Joyce Fletcher Trust, The Christina Aitchison Trust, The Ely Trust for their support, without which Magdalen Farm Strings would not be able to continue in its present form.
